Miami
Greater
Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau
Miami is so much FUN!! It's very expensive and fast-paced but
perfect for a few days of hedonism! To get there from New York
City, Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, or Washington, DC, try flying
Spirit
Airlines
for special fares to Ft.
Lauderdale,
about 40 minutes away by car or taxi. Miami is justifiably
famous for its beaches and nightlife, but there are plenty of
other things to fill your time. There's a little colony of
wild parrots on Lincoln Road in South Beach, and the Vizcaya
Museum and Gardens
is well worth a visit. Southwest of Miami
International Airport
in Homestead is the Coral
Castle.
Comments:
The really best hostel I've visited in the United States is
the Clay
Hostel and Hotel.
The rooms are cheap as sin, and the building complex is
absolutely gorgeous and in the middle of everything on the
South Beach scene! If you can, beg, borrow, or steal to stay
here. I was less impressed with the Banana
Bungalow.
It felt dirty when I was there, but it's still a cheap price
and fairly central, though not as central and beautiful as the
Clay Hostel!
A friend recommended the News
Cafe
in South Beach for lunch, breakfast, and people watching.
Miami was interesting. Do the beaches and baseball and night
scene.
Trip Report - Miami and Key Largo, February 2005
The trip was short and sweet. The weather was absolutely
perfect the entire time. Brother-in-law has a cute little
apartment with heated pool in the heart of South Beach. We
could walk to Lincoln Road as well as the beach. Great
strolling and people watching. Loved the diversity and energy
there. I have never heard so many languages spoken all at one
place. Many Europeans had come to enjoy our poor dollar.
We spent a couple days in Miami, enjoying the weather, the
Boat Show, the glitz, and yummy meals. Ocean Drive was as
trippy as I expected - lots of fake boobs and Hummers. Then we
hopped into brother-in-law's deluxe RV and spent a couple days
at The
Moorings Village.
I had no idea that the Keys had anything this nice. It was
very low key (pun intended) but beautiful, quiet, and
uncrowded, and we stayed for free because brother-in-law is
friendly with the manager. The beach was wonderful.
