Packing Tips

Insect repellant! Make sure you take some along take some aloe to stop the itching or stinging of bites

I've always had good luck using tea tree oil on itchy bites, so in the airport on our way to Greece, I tried to pick some up. I couldn't find any pure tea tree oil so I had to settle for a little bottle of tea tree oil zit treatment - came in a thin glass tube with a rollerball applicator on the end. That stuff worked *really* well on mosquito bites.

Purell hand sanitizer is good too - travel size, you can carry it round with you.

Leave room for souvenirs since they're so cheap.

I would suggest bringing your own toilet paper for India. I don't know what experience others have had on this but last time I was there the humidity fucked up my tampons (they hadn't been opened they just got bigger, it was weird) and when I was wearing them I was having weird fainting fits and I was in the middle-of-nowhere Goa (my fam lives out in the boonies) so I switched to pads b/c I was afraid of TSS. You might want to consider getting rid of your period during your trip or getting Instead or something. Menstruating in that climate is a bitch (I feel). Also, lots of those handy pepto-bismol pills.

Definitely take toilet paper and hand sanitizer with you to India. Immodium and painkillers are needed as well. Earplugs for train trips are a must! Make sure to bring long skirts, non-tight clothing to India and Thailand. The humidity there is ridiculous. INSECT REPELLANT is a necessity. Those are the most important things I can think of right now.
Pack light. You can buy plenty of cheap, climate friendly clothing in Bangkok.

You can get weather friendly clothes there as long as you don't have big boobs. Seriously, my friend is very petite, but she still couldn't get into some of the tops. Fisherman pants and skirts are everywhere and perfect for travel so get in the gear once you're there. But be aware, you WILL look like every other backpacker on the street!

On the other hand, you could get clothes made pretty cheap so that's always an option. You can pretty much get everything there that you can here toiletries wise. The only thing I recommend you pack is some hand wipes or sanitizer. Everything feels so dirty there, hand wipes were my saviour!

Work/Study Information

One Small Planet
This site has a bit of information to offer about work/study opportunities.
I'm teaching in Japan right now with a company called Nova. It's not a great place to work, but I find it acceptable. Their website is
www.teachinjapan.com You should also check out www.eslcafe.com they have tons of info and the stickies in their Teach in Japan forum have links to some other big corporate schools that hire from abroad.

As for language, I possess the approximate communicative ability of the Cookie Monster and I'm doing all right.

I keep a journal at
