HI Bruegel - http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostel008007.en.htm

HI Bruegel – Brussels - We always stayed in doubles with shared facilities and never spend more than $50 per night.
HI Generation - http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostel007002.en.htm

if you do decide to stay in Brussels, DON'T stay at the Brussels HI Generation eewwww.
Jacques Brel - http://www.laj.be/html/en/hostels/brel/aubergesbrel_en01.htm

We stayed at the Jacques Brel in Brussels. It was fairly central and had the nicest bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel, much less a hostel!

The rest of the room was sparsely furnished and the single beds were screwed to the floor.  Padlocks for lockers can be rented from reception and they have a nice bar and patio to hang out in the summer.  I think they do bar snacks too but we didn't have a chance to eat there.

We picked this place because it's close to the Eurostar terminal.  It's about a 10 minute walk to the city centre.

The stairs to the room are pretty steep, so it's not disabled friendly.  There's TV in the rooms with a couple of English channels on them and the beds are fairly comfortable.

It's not really a soicable place though because there's no common room
