Rome Accomodation Reviews
Al Gambero - http://www.locandaalgambero.com/inglese/facilities.htm

My daughter and I stayed at the Al Gambero in '98. When we were there, it was less pricey than it is now and wasn't part of the Locanda group. If you're only staying for a few nights, you might want to consider it if you're looking for something a little more splurgey for a few days.

B&B Pascucci - http://www.latroba.co.uk/italy/rome.php/rop1e.htm

Pension, double room with private bath and air conditioning $90 (in 2001). Fabulous location just outside Piazza Navona, staying in Luciano's guest room was a personal experience in such a big city. This nice man who tries his best to speak English rents out only one room and loves what he does. He started renting his guest room during the 2000 jubilee when the mayor asked the residents of Rome to make more accommodations available. Each morning over a breakfast of croissants, coffee, and passion fruit juice in his dining room, he mapped out an itinerary for us complete with bus numbers and stops. One night we even bumped into Luciano and his wife and their friends at a local restaurant he recommended! Luciano can be reached at lpascucci@tiscalinet.it (he doesn't 'quite' speak English, but you should be able to communicate.
Conte House - http://www.contehouse.com/

Conte House – We stayed in a double with shared facilities and never spend more than $50 per night.
Santa Chiara - http://www.albergosantachiara.com/

I'm not sure your budget for hotels, but I really liked a place I stayed in Rome,

In Rome it was a little fancy and from what I can see on Fodor's website, pricier than I remember. Located right near the Pantheon in a great locaton. Name is Santa Chiara.
Gullivers House - http://www.gullivershouse.com/

I stayed in Gulliver's House, which turned out to be the nicest hostel of my whole trip. It was looked more like a B&B than a hostel, there were cute dogs to play with, and the owners made me an awesome map of all the sights to see in Rome. I think the doubles have their own bathroom...
Fawlty Towers - http://www.fawltytowers.org/

Fawlty Towers is one of the best hostels in Europe - a real winner.
