If you like Sound of Music tours and Mozart, Salzburg has more to do than Vienna. Also if you go there check out the local brewry and the Natural History museum... there are some freaky 2 headed animals( real stuffed) in it.

If you like the artists Klimt or Schiele or grand architecture and royal palaces...then Vienna is the place to go in Austria. Also if you like Hiking/ Zoo's...and bad pizza head to Innsbruck    

you could travel to Salzburg via Innsbruck where you can get off for a couple hours and stretch, take a walk around the old town, and get some food. Trains to Salzburg from Innsbruck are frequent. Every 2 hours if not every hour.
