Antwerp
Places to Stay

There are two campsites Antwerp, Belgium:

Camping Vogelzang is most conveniently located, just a short tram ride to the city centre, and it is also near the HI hostel, but unfortunately it's right next to a busy road.

If you want peace and quiet, you'll be much better off at Camping De Molen. This one has much nicer surroundings, and is near the "beach" of St. Anneke (but beware that swimming in the river is illegal and probably unhealthy, and that two little girls have drowned here last year) on the left bank of the Schelde (the opposite side from the city centre). You will have to take a (not very frequent) bus or walk for half an hour to take the metro or the pedestrian tunnel into the city centre though. (btw when you're on the left bank anyway, check out lake Galgenweel!)

Things to Do

Antwerp - funny sounding name but sensational city, just north of Brussels. I found that Bruges was so depressingly dominated by fellow tourists that it didn't feel the least bit Belgian. Antwerp, however, is not known as a tourist town and has something like 4,000 bars - now that's very Belgian!
