Corfu
Things to Do
Peroulades on Corfu is a tiny village with a deserted beach.
Plakias is a very pleasant coastal village.
Frangokastello
is an interesting Venetian castle. It has a nice beach too.
In a village up in the hills called Askifou there is a tiny WWII museum
run by a man named George Hatzidakis. He was a young man during the war and
collected many fascinating artifacts. He and his wife were very friendly and
welcoming .
Chania is a pretty harbor town. Market Day is Saturday and is
a colorful event. Covered market is cool. The harbor area is touristy but still
fun, and the inner part of the town is great walking.
Another enjoyable
coastal village is Panormo which is on the north coast,
about 22 km east of Rethymno and 55 km west of Heraklion.
Knossos as well as the Archeological Museum are *well* worth
your time, but aside from that Heraklion was dirty and loud and not exactly our
favorite place on Crete.
Avoid Kavos because it's the biggest
dive in the world ever and full of vile 18 year old lager louts. There's
also a sewage problem as the ecosystem can't cope with that many
tourists.
