Places to Stay

There are no hostels as such, but there
are some budget places avaiable

Stefania Apartments

The apartments themselves are lovely, clean and well kept. The sea is literally in their back garden and the owners are lovely and laid back. The only problem with it was that it is in the middle of nowhere. I walked for ages and I couldn't find any supermarkets or shops or bars that are mentioned above or otherwise. A taxi to the nearest town (Tsilivi) is about 8 euros which as a return is more expensive than the daily cost of the apartments. As a retreat to get away from it all it's a fantastic place but if you're looking for nightlife and company then this isn't for you.

Things to Do

The main party hotspot is Laganas but Tsilivi is
coming up close behind.  There's also good
horseriding on the beach at Tsilivi but Laganas
has better beaches

Some of the beaches in Laganas are restricted
due to the turtles that lay their eggs there in June and July.  There are several boat companies that do "turtle watching" excusions.  You can find them either on Laganas beach or the high street lined with pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and touristy shops selling cheap turtle fridge magnets to give to your great aunt or whoever you know who needs more clutter in their house.

The Blue Caves are a rare wonder in that they have rare blue corral, as well as some yellow and red too.  They can only be reached by boat.  There are dolphins near by to watch out for.

There is a shipwreck that's been there for many
years.  It's in the middle of the beach.  No one
knows how it got there and the tourist board
assure us that they didn't put it there!

A big splurge is to hire a boat from Tsillvi beach.
They leave about 7 in the morning weather
dependent.  Book the day before to ensure that
you get a place.  It costs about 30 Euros and includes a trip to the Blue Caves and some diving there, then onto the Shipwreck beach plus some dolphin spotting too.  Lunch isn't included but they do stop at a nice restaurant overlooking the sea.

Alternatively you could rent your own boat, but this can be pretty pricy unless you're with a big group to split the cost.
